Sugarcane è in testa alle nomination per gli IDA Documentary Awards 2024 dell’International Documentary Association. Il film, che tratta dell’eredità abusiva delle scuole missionarie cattoliche per nativi americani, ha ottenuto cinque nomination, tra cui quella per il miglior lungometraggio.
Soundtrack to a Coup d’Etat ha ottenuto quattro nomination, mentre tre titoli — Queendom, Black Box Diaries e My Sweet Land — hanno ricevuto tre nomination ciascuno.
Soundtrack to a Coup d’Etat, Queendom e Black Box Diaries sono in corsa per il miglior lungometraggio insieme a Dahomey e ai doppi nominati Agent of Happiness, Ernest Cole: Lost and Found, No Other Land, Seeking Mavis Beacon e The Remarkable Life of Ibelin.

Le nomination per gli IDA Documentary Awards di quest’anno sono state selezionate da oltre 700 iscrizioni provenienti da 77 paesi, un numero superiore rispetto allo scorso anno. Le nomination nelle categorie di lungometraggi e finalisti sono state scelte da una lista di finalisti annunciata il 24 ottobre. Le iscrizioni sono state esaminate da una giuria di esperti, composta da 300 professionisti del documentario provenienti da più di 40 paesi.
I membri IDA potranno visionare e votare i film nelle categorie di lungometraggio e cortometraggio dal 19 novembre al 1° dicembre.
Oltre ai premi competitivi, gli IDA Documentary Awards onoreranno Dawn Porter con il Career Achievement Award, Shiori Ito di Black Box Diaries con l’Emerging Filmmaker Award e i quattro registi di No Other Land (Basel Adra, Hamdan Ballal, Rachel Szor, Yuval Abraham) con il Courage Under Fire Award.
La cerimonia dei 40° IDA Documentary Awards, presentata da Adam Conover, si terrà il 5 dicembre presso l’Orpheum Theater di Los Angeles, con la cerimonia che sarà trasmessa in diretta anche su documentary.org e sugli account YouTube, Facebook e Instagram di IDA.
