Patti Smith ringrazia Taylor Swift per essere stata citata in The Tortured Poets Department: “Mi ha commossa”

Patti Smith ha risposto alla recente menzione di Taylor Swift nella traccia del titolo del suo album omonimo, The Tortured Poets Department.

Swift fa il nome di Smith, poeta e artista rock, insieme a quello del poeta Dylan Thomas nel ritornello della canzone pubblicata all’interno del suo album venerdì 19 aprile. “I laughed in your face and said / ‘You’re not Dylan Thomas, I’m not Patti Smith / This ain’t the Chelsea Hotel / We’re modern idiots.”

Su Instagram, Patti Smith ha pubblicato una foto di se stessa mentre legge una raccolta di Dylan Thomas, scrivendo: “This is / saying I was / moved to be / mentioned in / the company / of the great / Welsh poet / Dylan Thomas. / Thank you, Taylor.”

Dylan Thomas, celebre scrittore del XX secolo, è passato alla storia per poesie come Dot Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night, Under Milk Wood o And Death Shall Have No Dominion. Smith è meglio conosciuta per la sua canzone del 1978 Because the Night. Il suo libro di memorie del 2010, Just Kids, ha vinto il National Book Award per la saggistica. Il Chelsea Hotel, situato a Manhattan, vanta da tempo la celebre reputazione di ospitare scrittori, pittori e altri artisti.

Venerdì 19 aprile Taylor Swift ha presentato le sedici tracce di The Tortured Poets Department, due delle quali realizzate rispettivamente con Post Malone e Florence + The Machine. Due ore dopo, la cantautrice ha sorpreso i fan con un rilascio di doppio album, aggiungendo altre 15 brani in una pubblicazione intitolata The Anthology.

Secondo quanto riferito, le copie fisiche dell’album includevano una poesia di Stevie Nicks, scritta per Swift, che era presente sulle copertine degli LP e sui libretti dei CD.

“Per T – e me” si legge nell’intestazione della poesia.

“He was in love with her / Or at least she thought so / She was brokenhearted / Maybe he was too / Neither of them knew. She was way too hot to handle/ He was way too high to try — / He couldn’t even see her / He wouldn’t open his eyes / She was on her way to the stars / He didn’t say goodbye,” the poem, dated Sept. 13, reads.

“He really can’t answer her / He’s afraid of her / He’s hiding from her / And he knows — that he’s hurting her / She tells the truth / She writes about it / She’s an informer / He’s an x-lover / There’s nothing there for her / She’s already gone”.
